From 4 March 2023, Carpenters Workshop Gallery Paris will be presenting Denim, the first solo exhibition of the artist Harry Nuriev, with the precious collaboration of Aurélie Julien Collectible.

For this carte blanche at Carpenters Workshop Gallery, Harry Nuriev will take over the ground floor of the Parisian venue located at 54 rue de la Verrerie with a set of pieces specially designed for the space.

Through this exhibition, Harry Nuriev repurposes the denim canvas. An iconic fabric, it has been adopted by miners, cowboys, Hollywood celebrities, rebels, rock stars, and haute couture over the past two centuries. By doing so, the artist is bringing fashion to design as his ethos is to combine design art and fashion together.

With this new body of work, Harry Nuriev continues to explore his concept of Transformism, which consists of reinterpreting everyday objects to renew their beauty. This series of deliberately hybrid pieces questions our relationship to furniture and revisits our relationship to the object.

For Denim, Harry Nuriev recreates an apartment by designing micro-environments. The collection was conceived as a modular system forming a matrix, composed of several dissociated and interchangeable elements.

"In the same way that you layer your jeans, T-shirts and jackets in the order you want, I want my furniture to adapt and shape itself according to the user's wishes." Harry Nuriev

These hybrid pieces are designed to adapt to the way we spend time indoors, which has changed considerably in recent years.

Like the Sofa Pool, a heterogenous space where one can eat, work, or rest. Far more than a simple piece of furniture, it is the extension of our needs. It is both a table and a sofa, so that conversations are not interrupted when you move from one to the other. When a table is as comfortable as a sofa, the design encourages deeper conversations.

With this new experimental collection, Harry Nuriev returns to a design that is centered on people and their needs, capable of influencing behavior for the better.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery is the first gallery to accompany Harry Nuriev for a collectible design exhibition. With this project, the gallery further reflects on what design will look like tomorrow.

ABOUT HARRY NURIEV

Harry Nuriev, born in 1984, is an artist, architect and designer living between New York and Paris. In 2014 he founded the interior architecture and design studio, Crosby Studios, of which he is now the creative director.

All his creations are thought through the prism of «transformism», an approach that Harry Nuriev formalized to describe his practice which is inspired by the unexpected beauty of everyday objects.

It confronts, and/or cohabits and/or even plays with each other, all types of virtual and material medias, generating the invention of immersive spaces, public and private interiors, design of objects and installations also projected into the Metaverse.

Through different stages of thought: effects of cloning, mutation and finally adaptation to a new real or virtual world, Harry Nuriev takes us out of our comfort zone to enlighten us about today’s society, to make us noticeably pay attention to its development.
It thus stimulates the idea of transforming what can be transformed to better adapt to the world that is offered to us and to the world that it imagines for us.

Its signature, rooted in our time, is inspired by historical references such as the founding members of the Bauhaus, and is formalized in the fusion of art, design, architecture and fashion.
Harry Nuriev plays with the borders that can traditionally separate these four fields of creation and challenges common ideas about the way we live and work.

The New York Times Magazine hailed Harry Nuriev as a pioneering voice of contemporary minimalistism, noting the original influence of his talent for bringing together architecture, craftsmanship and current technologies.

Harry Nuriev has given numerous conferences and participated in numerous educational programs in institutions such as Harvard, Pratt, the Royal College of Art in London...

Harry Nuriev has collaborated with top international brands and artists including Balenciaga, Nike, Dover Street Market, OMA, Liam Gillick, Valentino...
