On the occasion of the 13th edition of the FNB Art Joburg fair, the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery presents from 6 to 18 November, the exhibition “Racines” (Roots) a selection of artworks by three African artists; Nù Barreto (Guinea- Bissau), N’Doye Douts (Senegal) and Dimbeng (Côte d’Ivoire).

Each of them with their own “words"" and techniques develop a visual vocabulary with the common theme of uprooting, physical distancing and the disarray of exile.

These three artists throw into the abyss the suffering and fallen hopes that are common fortune of these young people who left towards a new Eldorado they never reached.

Abandonment and renunciation are subjects that are addressed in the same way as hope and desire for a better life.

LouSimone Guirandou Gallery will also take part in the fifth edition of the contemporary art fair ART X Lagos from 6 to 22 November 2020. The gallery will present a selection of works by three established and emerging artists Ablade Glover, Nù Barreto and Sess Essoh.

In response to the global health crisis, FNB Joburg Art Fair has had to reinvent itself this year’s fair proposing a 100% online version.

About the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery, Abidjan

Art historian Simone Guirandou-N’Diaye, founded the Arts Pluriels gallery in 1991. One of the first traditional and contemporary art galleries in the Côte d’Ivoire, which distinguished  itself through its diversity of national and international artists,  the quality of its creations, the accumulated experience and passion that Simone Guirandou-N'Diaye knows so well how to communicate and transmit, thus becoming over the years, making it an unmissable cultural meeting point in Abidjan.

Continuing on from this success, Simone Guirandou-NDiaye and her daughter Gazelle Guirandou inaugurated the new LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery on 10 December, 2015. The name brings together two stories, two journeys, two lives, two first names. Louis, that of her late husband, who was the first to encourage and support her in her project, and Simone, hers, united through the "S".

A beautiful tribute to symbolize this modern space, adjacent to the villa LouiSimone Guirandou, which today covers the pool and part of the garden. This place is an invitation to a new generation of collectors.

Every exhibition is a stimulating and enriching experience, driven by the excitement of risk-taking and artistic choices. For the LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery, it is about offering a rare opportunity to interact each time with a new artistic expression, to discover new sensitivities, but also to enjoy the different perspectives of cosmopolitan visitors.

Through an avant-garde and eclectic program of works by Ivorian and International artists, emerging or well-known, LouiSimone Guirandou Gallery continues to establish itself as a reference in the African cultural landscape.
