Galerie Templon has entrusted Communic’Art with the creation and production of the Gérard Garouste monograph for the retrospective exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi.

Organised with the support of the French Minister of Culture and the Institut Français, the retrospective of Gérard Garouste's works will be a milestone in the journey of the great French painter, alongside building Franco-Indian cultural relations. The exhibition benefits of the supports from Laurent Dassault, Fimalac's CEO Marc Ladreit de Lacharrière and Emerige Mécénat's CEO Laurent Dumas.

With more than 50 artworks covering over 35 years of painting, the exhibition has a retrospective and educational aim. It is the first time the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi has welcomed an exhibition of French painting.

The monograph published for this occasion reproduces all the works presented, retracing the reflections and themes which have motivated the artist for three decades: the analysis of the great Western literary texts, from Dante to Faust, the study of the fundamental texts, considered like myths, and the artist's personal story.

To quote the artist, "to approach the truth, I prefer to use illusion. I have more confidence in what is immediately stated as fictitious. History that wants to be objective cannot be because it is written by men according to a given era, a certain environment and a particular look. A Myth is timeless, like a painting has become. My works often revolve around stories so old that we cannot define their origin. It is the very idea of origin that interests me, probably precisely because it cannot be found! Just as the truth of myths is elusive. "

Each work is commented on by a notice explaining the sources of inspiration which inspired the artist.
