GM Architects is pleased to announce that its project “Museum of Civilizations” is the winner of the Cultural Regeneration category of the 2015 Architectural Review MIPIM Future Projects Awards. The ceremony took place in Cannes on Wednesday, March 11th.

For its 26th edition, MIPIM, the world’s leading property fair, has brought together the most influential players internationally across all property sectors, offering unrivalled access to the greatest number of development projects and sources of capital worldwide.

‘The Museum of Civilizations’, awarded in the Cultural Regeneration category, is envisioned as half-way between a museum and an archaeological dig as it would cut underground through layers of rock.

This project exposes the different periods in the city’s geological heritage, whilst also exploring its political history; Byzantine, Roman, French etc. contemplating the multicultural origins of Lebanese identity.

Since its unveiling at the 14th International Biennale of Architecture in Venice, this utopian museum has attracted a number of proposals from potential backers.
