The French Delegation of Fondation Calouste Gulbenkian, in partnership with Beaux Arts Magazine, launched Les Intranquilles on Tuesday, January 27, a podcast series devoted to the singular journeys of eight Portuguese artists or artists from the Portuguese diaspora. The first episode is dedicated to Lourdes Castro. Episode 3, released on February 24, focuses on Francisco Tropa. The sculptor reflects on his passionate dialogue with La Vie mode d’emploi by Georges Perec, and on how a literary work can profoundly and enduringly nourish an artistic practice.

Through these intimate and sensitive stories, the podcast highlights the events, encounters, and works that have deeply marked the artists’ paths and shaped their artistic practices.

A family photograph, a formative friendship, a work of art, a face-to-face encounter with a masterpiece… In Les Intranquilles, each episode explores that pivotal moment which, often quietly, permanently transforms the creative process. Journalist Anne-Cécile Genre meets these personalities to uncover their creative secrets and reveal how inquietude becomes the driving force behind the work.

At the crossroads of art history, biographical storytelling, and reflection on the act of creation, the series gives voice to major artists whose journeys resonate with themes of exile, transmission, freedom, and transformation.

The podcast series highlights the life journeys of the following artists: Lourdes Castro, Manuela Marques, Francisco Tropa, Paulo Nozolino, Helena Almeida, Gabriel Abrantes, Marlene Monteiro Freitas, and Cécile Debray.
