Carpenters Workshop Gallery participates for the first time in FOG Design+Art 2017, taking place from January 12 to 15.

Continuing its ten-year anniversary celebrations, the gallery will present an ensemble of important and unique works that reflect the evolution of the gallery’s program throughout the years. The booth will showcase works by leading figures of collectible design including: Nacho Carbonell, Vincenzo De Cotiis, Ingrid Donat, Studio Drift, Vincent Dubourg, Mathieu Lehanneur, Atelier Van Lieshout, Rick Owens, Giacomo Ravagli and Random International.

Bronze & tribal inspirations

Carpenters Workshop Gallery will present several pieces by Ingrid Donat whose retrospective ‘Origins’ was recently held at the gallery in New York along with the publication of her first monograph. A reflection on the island La Réunion where her father came from, pieces such as ‘Bibliotheque Murale en 5 Elements’, ‘Console
Tribal’ and ‘Miroir Grenade’ are decorated and inspired by tribal tattooing. The repetition of circular shapes creates a rich textural surface of the bronze, distinct to the artist’s unique style.

Idyllic forms

Rick Owens’ perforated-suede, lined chaise longue created in natural plywood and spanning 12 feet will also be on the booth. ‘Double Bubble’ evokes the designer’s exploration of “pre-historic” aesthetics, incorporating both everyday and luxurious materials into his pieces.

After Vincenzo De Cotiis’ successful show at Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s new London space (4 Albermarle Street), the gallery has chosen two marble and cast-bronze coffee tables by the designer. Taken from his ‘Progretto Domestico’ collection, Neo-Romantic idyllic forms combine with smooth surfaces, reminiscent of soft pools of water.

In anticipation of the group show ‘Art Light’ taking place from January 26 at the New York gallery, an innovative selection of sculptural lighting designs will be presented at this year’s booth. This includes: an organically shaped, concrete based lamp by Spanish designer Nacho Carbonell, an interactive 3D light installation by playful design collective Random International, as well as a hexagonal marble and brass lamp from Giacomo Ravagli’s ‘Barometro’ series.

Natural inspirations

In addition, a ‘Fragile Future’ chandelier by Studio Drift will bring the booth to life with its elegant and dazzling presence. Made up of real dried dandelions connected with an intricate modular system, the piece echoes the complex yet systematic beauty of nature’s design.

Equally inspired by nature, the gravity defying ‘Exile’ by Vincent Dubourg mixes aluminium with tree branches cast in bronze. Capturing the playful and unexpected forms of the French designer, and showing the evolution of his work since 2008.

‘Model The Burghers’ by Atelier Van Lieshout will also be showcased at the gallery’s booth. Embodying its Gesamtkunstwerk aesthetic –a synthesis of methods, materials and disciplines, the wooden sculpture represents the untethered creativity of the Dutch design studio.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery
Collectible Design Today

Carpenters Workshop Gallery produces and exhibits functional sculptures by international rising and already established artists and designers going outside their traditional territories of expression.

Actively involved in the research and production of the limited edition works exhibited, the gallery’s choices are guided by the research of an emotional, artistic and historical relevance; a relevance that appears as an evidence.

Until June 2017, the gallery will be celebrating its ten year anniversary, with a special program of exhibitions, events and many surprises dedicated to a decade at the forefront of collectible design.
