From October 13th to November 21st 2015, Galerie ARGENTIC presents an exhibition of around forty black and white photographs, vibrant and until now unpublished, by Pierre de Vallombreuse, timed with the publication of the eponymous book by Arthaud Publishing.

Western people still struggle for the consideration of a fully equal status between men and women, and despite the considerable progress made since the middle of the twentieth century, this remains a major topic for debate and social struggles.

The observation of isolated cultures and few rare micro-societies - considered as more traditional from a Western point ot view - in regions remote and untouched by globalization, reveals astonishing and clearly progressive approaches.

Indeed, in some of these cultures, the trends seem to be reversed: women occupy a central place in the social and spiritual foundations, preserving or advocating equality between the sexes, with total mutual respect. There are models for society where the position of the women is not a fight.

Pierre de Vallombreuse went to meet these unkown people, specially in South-East Asia. From these singular encounters, he shoots poignant photographic portraits, full of strength, life and truth and from which our side of the world should take essential lessons from.

For Souveraines, Vallombreuse met four of these Asian cultures where female lines play a decisive role. Societies where being born a woman is not the equivalent of a conviction or punishment but is a real blessing.

Galerie ARGENTIC
a focus on vintage humanist photography

Located at 43 rue Daubenton in Paris’ 5th arrondissement, at the heart of the Mouffetard district, which boasts a tremendously rich past and artistic heritage, Galerie ARGENTIC gives pride of place to humanist photography, with works by Willy Ronis, Robert Doisneau, Izis, Sabine Weiss and Henri Cartier Bresson.

The gallery is also committed to supporting the art of photojournalism, exhibiting work by Michel Giniès, Godard, Vacher and Mutzig, amongst others. Eric Boudry, a passionate collector of photographs since the early 1980s, set up argentic.fr in 2005. This website sells original photographic work. Eric’s expertise allows him to offer work that stands out in terms of both quality and variety.

Founded in January 2015, Galerie ARGENTIC’s goal is to exhibit rare, iconic works by early photographers, present-day practitioners of the art and everything in between.

ARGENTIC’s vision is a long-term one, driven by a commitment to exhibit only the very best photographs with a view to building up a reputation as a name to be trusted by both visitors and collectors.

Galerie ARGENTIC puts on five exhibitions each year, in addition to its involvement in Fotofever Paris.
