After the Fondation CHU Teh-Chun commemorated the hundredth anniversary of the birth of the eponymous artist with the launch of a documentary film previewed at the Jérôme Seydoux Foundation in Paris it will be unveiled to the public at the beginning of 2021 at the Musée Guimet in Paris (dependant on public health restrictions).

Born on 24 October 1920, the Franco-Chinese painter, a great figure of lyrical abstraction, would have been 100 years old this year. On this occasion, the film invites us to meet Chu Teh-Chun and unveils the singular language of this artist.

Thanks to experts, the painter's descendants and the family archives, this documentary sheds light on all that Chu Teh- Chun has brought to lyrical abstraction, highlighting the dexterity and multi-disciplinarity of the artist. An invitation to a poetic and singular journey to rediscover Chu's pictorial symphonies.

Directed by Christophe Fonseca and produced by Les Films de L'Odyssée, this documentary film was previewed in October 2020 on the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth at the Fondation Jérôme Seydoux in Paris. In 2021 it will be shown in Geneva and Shanghai.

Chu Teh-Chun achieves the ideal synthesis between classical Chinese painting and Western abstraction in a very personal style, he gracefully pushes back the limits of the real and the unreal and succeeds in voluptuously reconciling painting, music and poetry.

In 1997, Chu Teh-Chun was elected to the Paris Academy of Fine Arts, the first Frenchman of Chinese origin to accomplish this. "He is the only painter of his generation to have gone so far in his research to create a symbiosis of his two cultures" explains François Cheng, poet, essayist and novelist, a great friend of Chu. In the tradition of Chinese painting, Chu Teh-Chun transcribed his thoughts and emotions by depicting the harmony between man and nature.

From 1955, he freed himself from figuration, enriching his palette with an immense variety of shades, becoming a master in the art of combining colours and integrating light into his paintings.

A prolific artist, he has produced more than 2,500 oil paintings on canvas, works on paper, washes, calligraphy and ceramics.
