BIENALSUR offers a 5th edition with a rich and varied program, spanning interactive exhibitions, site-specific installations, artist residencies, video screenings, and international round-table discussions. Visitors will be able to discover works by artists from all backgrounds, built around themes such as the body, memory, landscape, utopia, and the transnational circulation of ideas and artistic practices.

In keeping with the volatility and urgency of the present moment, BIENALSUR embraces a permanent "work in progress" dynamic, continuously adjusting its schedule based on the needs of the community of institutions and artists that make up the biennial. As Diana Wechsler put it, they are the true protagonists of BIENALSUR.

In France, the BIENALSUR 2025 program will run over 3 months, across eight iconic venues, from Bordeaux to Paris by way of Toulouse and Corte:

Starting in September, La Fabrique – Université Toulouse Jean Jaurès will host the project Le Silence des Lucioles ("The Silence of the Fireflies"), unfolding through an international symposium and an exhibition. Artists and researchers will explore light as a sign of life, surveillance, and resistance, examining ecological, political, and social disasters through the lens of artistic creation.

Starting in September, FRAC Corsica continues its program Résidences Croisées ("Cross Residencies"), launched in 2023 with BIENALSUR, which has already brought together artists from Saudi Arabia, France, and Argentina. In 2025, the project expands to include Greece, in partnership with ARTWORKS Athens, creating an unprecedented dialogue between the Mediterranean and South America. This initiative fosters exchange between artists and curators and nurtures new perspectives through the circulation of practices.

On October 4, the Centre Pompidou, in collaboration with MK2 Bibliothèque, will present Latin American Suite, a video program accompanied by a discussion. Through works created in critical contexts, the artists question artistic conventions and explore new ways of thinking about the image and its capacity to resist, bear witness, and reinvent memory.

Starting October 11, CENTQUATRE-PARIS will host the group exhibition "Les Illusions retrouvées / New Found Illusions" as part of the Némo International Digital Arts Biennial, organized by the Île-de-France region. This exhibition brings together utopia and technology, where artificial intelligence, hybrid ecosystems, and science fiction shape new visions of the living world.

Starting in October, CENTQUATRE-PARIS will present "Lost Illusions, Illusions to Reclaim?", a BIENALSUR focus as part of the Némo International Digital Arts Biennial, organized by the Île-de-France region. The exhibition brings together works by Gabriela Golder, Ali Kazma, and Kapwani Kiwanga, who revisit modern utopias, explore our ways of reading the world, and offer perspectives on a possible future, while highlighting the links between art and nature.

Starting November 6, the Instituto Cervantes in Bordeaux will present "Voix, Gestes, Traductions" ("Voices, Gestures, Translations"), an exhibition by Argentine artist Leticia Obeid. Her work examines the connections between language, memory, and image, exploring translation as a space of displacement and expansion of meaning.

In Paris, the Institut du Monde Arabe will host (date to be confirmed) the installation "Let's Play. The End of the Horizon" by Saudi artist Alaa Tarabzouni. Made from salvaged materials, the work explores the memory of cities and the ongoing transformation of urban landscapes, as part of BIENALSUR's international "Let's Play" cycle.

On November 10, the Maison de l'Amérique Latine will host a Latin American video art program titled "Approaches to the Landscape," featuring Pablo Mazzolo, Celeste Rojas Mugica, Maia Gattás Vargas, and Malena Szlam. The works explore landscape as an active body and political space, revealing ecological, social, and historical tensions while transforming our perception of image and memory.
