Open from 28 April, Carpenters Workshop Gallery finds its new London home within Ladbroke Hall – a new stage in Notting Hill on which to experience creative expression in its many forms: contemporary art, collectible design, culture, dining and music.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery, the leading contemporary art gallery dedicated to blurring the boundaries between art, sculpture and de- sign, first opened in Chelsea in 2006 and eventually moved to Mayfair in 2008 to sit in the heart of the city. They’ve since grown to include galleries in Paris, New York and Los Angeles.

This move to Ladbroke Hall celebrates the next chapter in Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s ambitions to encourage deeper engagement and emotion in visitors to the gallery. The new gallery space exists across the East Wing of the building spanning two floors, including four large exhibition rooms, two artist-designed, private salons by Ingrid Donat and Vincenzo De Cotiis, a private terrace by Robert Stadler and a ded- icated showroom for Carpenters Workshop Jewellery.

Carpenters Workshop Gallery will present two coinciding inaugural solo exhibitions. One will premiere Sir David Adjaye’s latest body of collect- ible design, consisting of eight limited-edition works, including a chair, dining table and a coffee table. Cast in bronze, they feature contrasting textures. The outer surfaces feature a smooth gold finish, and the in- ner surfaces are textured with human markings, a reflection of Adjaye’s investigations into craftsmanship and the materiality of bronze.

The second exhibition shares the gallery’s recently launched historical design offering with a museum-quality exhibition dedicated to the late Brazilian architect, sculptor and designer Jose Zanine Caldas (1919- 2001). Wood, in all its potentiality, is at the heart of Caldas’ work. His creations, with their raw and sensual character, combine an elegance and an ecological awareness that was then avant-garde. The result of three years of active research, the gallery brings together a rare selec- tion of his most important works.

From co-founders Julien Lombrail and Loic Le Gaillard: “We look forward to opening this extraordinary new home for Carpenters Workshop Gallery and to share our vision with you on how we can meaningfully engage with art in all forms.”
