Cahiers d'Art are pleased to present Inserted Between The Painted Glass, a solo exhibition by artist Rosa Barba at both spaces, 14 and 15 rue du Dragon, from 5 April to 18 May 2024. This exhibition of new sculptural works by the artist coincides with the launch of a new series of prints by Rosa Barba published and available only through Cahiers d'Art; comprising two separate series of one-off mono-prints and two series of limited edition prints. After spending time in the Cahiers d'Art archives, Rosa Barba was inspired by the original copper printing plates containing images and texts used in the production of the original Cahiers d'Art magazines dating from 1926 to 1960, with a particular interest in Pablo Picasso's copper plates depicting Dora Maar.

Rosa Barba synthesises these archival elements with motifs from her own work, while exploring the medium and printing technique to offer a unique insight into her creative process. Rosa Barba's artistic practice navigates between various dichotomies, exploring themes of permanence and impermanence, reality and fiction, and the interaction of language and time. Through film, sculpture, installation and performance, she investigates how space is shaped by temporal and linguistic constructions, challenging linear narratives and traditional semiotics. Rosa Barba deconstructs cinematic elements to examine the intersections between physical materials such as projectors and celluloid and abstract concepts such as time, space and sound. His work often focuses on natural landscapes and human interventions, blurring the lines between historical archive, personal narrative and artistic representation.
