LAFFANOUR - Galerie Downtown / Paris will be at The Salon from 14th to 18th November 2013. For the second time at The Salon Art & Design, the Gallery will draw a parallel between Perriand and Niemeyer throughout out exceptionnal furniture from 1930s to 1980s. Oscar Niemeyer's drawings will hold a dialogue with this rare furniture.

This spectacular booth shows out the treasures François Laffanour has kept on finding out for thirty years : for example, this model of low armchair and its ottoman designed by Oscar and Maria Niemeyer was produced in very few exemplaries by Tendo Brasiliera. It was rarely used for fitting of certain ministry buildings as well as private houses in Brasilia. This model with a cow squeen is a private commision.

About LAFFANOUR - Galerie Downtown / Paris

LAFFANOUR - Galerie Downtown / Paris exhibits architects’ furniture designs, which are now recognized as real collectors’ items. The designs in question stand out for their intellectual rigour, commitment to social change and enthusiasm – we might even say radicalism – possessed as they were of sufficient vision and courage to strike out on new paths. The place of these items of furniture in the history of 20th century art must be seen through the spectrum of this period’s many social upheavals.

Architects’ furniture designs as being the product of a debate on the nature of modernity: the attempt to find a balance between the technical and that which is driven by questions of lifestyle – the end goal being to promote something that will be of use to society as a whole.

An uncompromising approach to aesthetics is very much the hallmark of LAFFANOUR - Galerie Downtown / Paris, as it is vividly illustrated by its spectacular displays in art fairs, its painstaking restoration work and its gallery exhibitions. Exhibitions at the gallery in 18 rue de Seine never fail to offer an opportunity to discover the original and the remarkable  - testament to the unequalled expertise of Galerie Laffanour - as well as investing the collections of furniture and extremely rare pieces with a sense of grandeur that goes well beyond their basic function.

LAFFANOUR - Galerie Downtown / Paris is the major exhibitor of Charlotte Perriand’s work and has contibuted to reveal Jean Prouvé's work. The Gallery is also equally committed to discovering the creative talents of today and tomorrow, talents who will pick up the baton of the creative movement first begun in the 1950s, with their own particular intellectual voyage, their own vision of furniture design and their own personal journey through everyday life like Ettore Sottsass, Ron Arad or Gaetano Pesce.
