Galerie Lefebvre & Fils is greatly honoured to present Idoles, from 20 October to 20 November 2025, a monographic exhibition devoted to Georges Mathieu Yassef, a major artist and ceramicist who passed away in 2024. This exceptional exhibition will bring together twenty-eight previously unseen works, revealing the expressive, poetic and deeply human power of his practice.

A distinctive visual language

Georges Mathieu Yassef stood out for a body of work that was free, organic and intuitive. Drawing on primitive forms as much as on modern avant-gardes, he developed a unique vocabulary at the crossroads of sculpture, ceramics and experimentation. Throwing, modelling, glazing, the incorporation of metal or natural pigments: the artist tirelessly explored the plasticity of matter. Each piece arises from a search for the ideal form, but above all from a desire to convey universal emotions — in his own words, "to touch as close as possible to the being."

Colours, materials, emotions

Colour, a fundamental element of his work, is never mere ornament. It accentuates volumes, extends lines, intensifies the presence of the piece. His glazes — developed according to his own personal recipes — give the surfaces a unique richness. Through its formal rigour and emotional charge, Georges Mathieu Yassef's work questions the place of craftsmanship in contemporary creation, at the border between heritage and modernity.

The opening will be held on 20 October from 6pm to 8pm, during Paris's contemporary art week, a highlight of the artistic calendar.

LEFEBVRE & FILS CELEBRATES 145 YEARS OF THE GALLERY AND 10 YEARS OF ITS ARTIST RESIDENCY IN VERSAILLES

2025 marks a pivotal year for Galerie Lefebvre & Fils, which is celebrating both its 145 years of existence and the 10th anniversary of The Residency, its artist residency founded in Versailles in 2015 by Louis Lefebvre. To mark this double celebration, the gallery is rolling out an ambitious programme combining new creations, monographic exhibitions and participation in major international events.

Alongside the Georges Mathieu Yassef exhibition at the gallery, Lefebvre & Fils will also take part in the 1st edition of Ceramic Art Fair Paris, from 21 to 25 October 2025, at the Hôtel d'Amérique Latine. Conceived as a complementary event within the Art Week programme, this new fair devoted to contemporary ceramics has been entrusted to the scenography of Luis Laplace. On this occasion, Lefebvre & Fils will present the works of French artist Théo Ouaki, whose practice is steeped in the ceramic cultures of Mexico and the United States, where he lived for many years, and Kartini Thomas, whose sculptural world draws inspiration from organic forms, cellular structures and imaginary creatures.

At the same time, from 21 to 26 October 2025, Galerie Lefebvre & Fils will take part in Design Miami / Paris – "At Large", presenting L'Immortelle, a monumental aluminium sculpture by the Franco-Luxembourgish duo Feipel & Bechameil, ahead of their residency in Versailles with the gallery in January 2026. Offered for sale for the first time, this work explores the tensions between nature and technology, and questions our relationship with an increasingly artificial environment. It will be installed in the garden of the Hôtel de Maisons.

Finally, from 2 to 7 December 2025, Lefebvre & Fils will take part in the 20th anniversary edition of Design Miami with an ambitious project produced entirely in the United States: a monumental installation of 5 ceramic works by French artist Laurent Dufour.
