A catalogue on Garouste for Daniel Templon

For Galerie Daniel Templon, a catalogue of Gérard Garouste’s exhibition La Bourgogne, la famille et l’eau tiède has been created by Communic'Art

Communic’Art has conceived and realized the book/catalogue for Gérard Garouste’s exhibition entitled La Bourgogne, le famille et l’eau tiède presented at Galerie Daniel Templon from January 12 until February 26, 2008.

Garouste_BourgogneObsessed with the origins of our culture and the heritage of our ancestors, Gérard Garouste abandons for the first time the key texts of Western History to look at his own story without complacency.

In his new exhibition, Garouste investigates three parts of his life: the lost paradise of his childhood in Burgundy, the hell that represents his family and, his search, which could very well be impossible, of “lukewarm water”, namely a kind of moderation or wisdom.

He presents, without any reserve and in a very frontal way, some striking episodes of his life: family secrets, childhood’s traumas, memories of insanity crisis and of his confinment in mental hospitals.

Elegant, interesting and largely illustrated, the book/catalog brings to light the richness of Gérard Garouste’s works. Facing each painting are words by the artist gathered by Hortense Lyon. This mirror play, the reader is invited in the artist’s most intimate story.

Born in 1946, Gérard Garouste is one of the major figures of French painting today. From the 1980s, he exhibited his work all over the world and entered numerous prestigious public collections.

Gérard Garouste will perform from January 29 until February 24th, 2008 at the Théâtre du Rond Point, with Denis Lavant, in a show he wrote. Le Classique et l’Indien is constructed as the commentary of a blind critic on the absence of a painting, the Dive Bacbuc which his hidden in the Quart Livre by Rabelais.

This catalogue is distributed by our partner PARIS MUSÉES in 300 bookstores in France, including 50 specialized bookstores with an Art section. The catalogue will be listed in over forty (40) professional databases, including Fnac, Amazon and Dilicom as well as in online bookstores. The catalogue will also be distributed in Europe, North America and Eastern Europe.

A catalogue Adami for Daniel Templon

Communic'Art created the catalogue of Valerio Adami's new exhibition entitled Jusqu'ici, presented at galerie Daniel Templon

Three years after the exhibition Préludes et après-ludes, Valerio Adami presents a new exhibition at Galerie Daniel Templon from October 27th until December 29th 2007. The exhibition gathers 30 paintings and drawings executed since 2005.

Adami_JusquIciValerio Adami continues to explore the theme of Melancholy which he has developped over the past years.

Couples, musicians, mythical or religious characters are set in a closed-off universe and express the vanity of human condition, which artistic creation tries to compensate.

In a very recognizable way, Adami uses very precise pencil drawings to structure his canvasses with he erases until they give the paintings an extreme sobriety. By doing so, Adami offers a strong tool to reflect on the allegory or definition of space.

The catalogue presents an « abstract poem for Valerio » by Michel Deguy along with a text by Pascal Guignard, winner of the Goncourt Prize in 2002, inspired by the artist’s work. In addition, a manuscript by Adami which explains the title of the exhibition, Jusqu’ici and photographs taken in his studio give a very intimate feel to the book.

Valerio Adami was born in Bologna in 1935. Starting in 1958, he travels and lives in different European cities, the United States, Latin America and India.

He has exhibited his work at the Jewish Museum in New York, the Musée d’Art moderne de la Ville and the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, but also in Mexico, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Buenos Aires.

Valerio Adami is currently working on creating a Foundation devoted to drawing : « The drawing Institute –  Fondo Adami » in Meina, Italy. In 2006, the Musée d’Art Contemporain of Lisboa presented the first retrospective on his work and a large exhibition is being prepared at the Pomodoro Foundation in Milan for 2009.

This catalogue is distributed by our partner PARIS MUSÉES in 300 bookstores in France, including 50 specialized with an Art section.

The catalogue will be listed in over forty (40) professional databases and online bookstores, including Fnac, Amazon and Dilicom. The catalogue will also be distributed in Europe, North America, Canada and Eastern Europe.

2nd edition of Strasbourg Capitale du Verre

The European Studio Glass Art Association entrusts Communic'Art with the media campaign of the 2nd edition of Strasbourg, Capitale du Verre

The first edition of « Strasbourg, Capitale du Verre » held in 2006 attracted more than 40 000 visitors. In 2007, the event should welcome an even larger public with the TVG-Est that links Paris to Strasbourg in just 2 hours and 20 minutes! « Strasbourg, Capitale du Verre » is going to become the most important european event for art and glass lovers.

This event, initiated by the European Studio Glass Art Association or ESGAA, brings forward all artistic aspects of glass in 17 exhibitions with 40 international artists: design, decorative art, architecture, sculpture, and photography.

This event takes place in a historical and cultural context closely related to glass. It is indeed in Alsace and the surrounding area such as Lorraine and the Vosges where French glass-making industry was born, including Baccarat, Lalique and Saint-Louis…

Even though, for centuries, this material was mainly used with decorative and utilitarian functions, glass has become, in a few decades, a medium commonly used in contemporary art.

This event aims at establishing an artistic interest in glass, both for amateurs and professionals.

L’ESGAA has entrusted Communic’Art with the media campaign for the event. Regional, general, artistic, design and fashion media have been addressed. A few days before the event’s inauguration, close to 20 articles were already published in the press.

The first monograph on Emmanuel Barcilon

Emmanuel Barcilon’s first monograph created for Dukan & Hourdequin and Pascal Polar galleries

Born in 1967, Emmanuel Barcilon received his diploma from the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Cergy. Since the end of the 1990s, he has been exhibiting regularly in galleries and contemporary art centers in Europe and mainly in France.

BarcillonThis first catalogue gathers twenty paintings realised between 2005 and 2007.

Their specificity lies in the treatment of surface and colours which plays with nuances of opacity and transparency.

Emmanuel Barcilon covers his canvasses with pigmented varnish, adds marks to it and sands it down to reveal the previous drawing. This operation is then repeated several times until the varnish becomes lacquered and reflects the spectator.

The catalogue translates this very specific texture by using a strong varnish. Colours, shapes, textures, transparencies, graphic inventions, tinted areas, writings, drawings inhabit the paintings with spontaneity.

Barcilon’s pictorial intent gets animated between spaces of pure colour, abstract drawings and almost unreadable writings.

This monograph is nourrished by texts by three critics and art historians : Lionel Dax, writer and art historian, teaches semiology and aesthetics. Alexandra Fau, journalist for various art magazines and independant curator. Anne Malherbe is a journalist and editor of Artivi, a WebTV on art.

A catalogue Nunzio for galerie Di Meo

Communic'Art has created the catalogue for the Italian artist Nunzio's new exhibition presented in summer 2007 at galerie Di Meo

Galerie Di Meo presents Nunzio’s recent works from May 25th to July 21st 2007. To accompany the exhibition, the gallery has mandated Communic’Art to create a catalogue reproducing all the works in the show, along with a text by Lydie and Nello Di Meo and an introduction by Emmanuele Trevi.

NunzioThe exhibition presents the most recent works by Nunzio, the only true sculptor of the artistic movement “New Roman School” which gathers artists like Pizzi Cannella, Dessi or Gallo.

Nunzio works with wood, bronze and wood combustion. He transforms lead into mural presence that he sets up like a pure challenge to emptiness.

The material is corrugated and perforated, like a new alphabet which the meaning only belongs to the artist, leaving spectators imagine their own language.

The Italian art critic Emanuele Trevi writes in the catalogue’s introduction « with the patience and determination of an explorer clearing a path through the brush, Nunzio works his way inside sawing, melting, grinding, sanding, painting, burning… Behind all of these gestures, (…) we can distinguish the echo of the same, deep need: the moment of schism, the separation, the elimination of the superfluous…».

Nunzio was born in Cagnano Amiterno in the Abruzzi in 1954. Since 1978, his exhibitions follow one another from
galleries to museums in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the United States, France, Japan, Serbia, Switzerland but also in Italy.

A large retrospective was devoted to him in MACRO, the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea of Rome, in 2005.

The catalogue, of an elegant small size, offers an intimate glance on the works and their richness of texture. Photographs taken in the artist’s studio also allow the reader to penetrate his universe.

This catalogue is distributed by PARIS MUSÉES, ine France near 300 bookshops of which 50 specialized laying out an “Art” district. It is also referenced in about forty professional databases of which the Fnac, Amazon and Dilicom, like on websites of sale online. It will be also distributed in Europe, North America and the Middle East.

The 1st monograph on Navarro for Templon

Communic'Art created for Galerie Daniel Templon the first monograph of Chilean artist Iván Navarro

The first monograph of Iván Navarro, realised on Galerie Daniel Templon’s demand by Communic’art, presents a series of works createdbetween 1996 and 2007.

NavarroThe catalogue gathers 68 illustrations witha text by John B. Ravenal, Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Of chillian origins, Iván Navarro was born in 1972 in Santiago, where he followed his art studies at the Universidad Catolica from 1991 to 1995.

He made himself known in New York, where he resides now, thanks to his post-minimalist sculptures conceived with standard industrial elements- light bulbs, fluorescent lights, glass mirrors – that he diverts into trompe l’oeil, furnitures or installations.

At first sight, his tools are not without recalling the minimalist language of the 70s and in particular Dan Flavin’s neons sculptures that Iván Navarro pays sometimes homage to, with humour.

However, this appropriation of modernism is just a way to subvert its codes. Iván Navarro enjoys creating pastiches or illusion games that appeal to the spectator and proposes a politicaland sociological criticism of contemporary America. Silla Electrica, a chair inspired by Rietveld’s design, takesthe shape of denunciation of death penalty.

Iván Navarro grew up under Augusto’s Pinochet dictatorship which he denounces in his works.“From this experience, Navarro kept, like many of his compatriots, an acute perception of the discrepancies between appearance and truth. Nothing surprising, therefore, in the fact that his luminous works show an interest forpower and double meaning” writes John B. Ravenal, in the introduction of the catalogue.

This catalogue is distributed by PARIS MUSÉES, in France near 300 libraries of which 50 specialized laying outan “Art” district. It is also referenced in about forty professional databases of which the Fnac, Amazon and Dilicom, like on websites of sale online. It will be also distributed in Europe, North America and the Middle East.
